ITX청춘열차

KORAIL Metropolitan Railroad HQ was inaugurated as the Planning Team of Sales Division at the National Railroad Administration in August 1974, when the 74.1km rail lines of Gyeongbu, Gyeongin and Gyeongwon opened.

At the beginning of service, the metro trains made 296 trips a day between 47 stations, serving 200,000 people of Seoul.

Over the past 37 years since then, the number of metro stations has increased by 4.3 times to 203 stations and the number of daily train trips expanded by 7.9 times to 2,331. With daily ridership jumping by 12.8 times to 2.74 million persons, KORAIL’s metro service has become the transport mode of choice for 23 million people of the Seoul Metropolitan area.

As the largest metro operator in Korea, KORAIL Metropolitan Railroad HQ currently operates the Gyeungui Line and Ilsan Line from its Seoul HQ; Line 1, the Gyeongbu, Gwacheon and Ansan Lines from its Western Metropolitan HQ; the Bundang, Jungang, and the Gyeongchun Lines from Eastern Metropolitan HQ. Continuing to build new lines and introducing Korea’s first semi-high-speed double-decker train ITX-Cheongchun, KORAIL offers a metro service trusted and loved by the public.
