Overview

• The centralized traffic control (CTC) system monitors and controls train operation to guarantee safety and prevent accidents.
• Korail trains currently operate a total of 3,200 sessions daily nationwide. Engineers do not arbitrarily change the direction or speed of a train when it is in operation. Unlike automobile drivers that can change the vehicle’s direction when needed, engineers operate trains over railroads and stop on designated stops.
• The CTC system allows the controller to monitor all trains that are operated in different methods across the nation and remotely control the signals that are installed with the railroads. In addition, it guides trains to take alternative railroads in the event of unexpected train accidents or system errors. It also orders the suspension of train operation or transfer to another transportation means for safe and quick restoration of train operation.
• The CTC system prioritizes the protection of the lives and asset of passengers. Therefore, with the help of cutting-edge control facilities and competent personnel, Korail is dedicated to its duties without accepting even the smallest error.

Objective

• Centralized control and monitoring of rolling stock operation
• Normal train operation, normalization of delayed operation, and follow-up measures
• Approval, coordination and control of planned construction projects
• Approval of emergency train operation
• Minimization of damage caused by accident through operation coordination (reporting of accident, operation control in emergency situations, temporary train operation) and accident recovery
• Analysis and recording of train control information
• Operational information: Rolling stock, electricity/signal/communication, railroad/structure, safety facility (axle detection, fire alarm, weather information)
• Special information: Reporting of information and support (accidents, breakdowns, delays and disasters)
